Is Zootopia 2 OK for a 5 Year Old?

Zootopia 2 (2025) · the answer, age by age

Written by FilmScout, reviewed by Ben Fedyniak · Updated August 23, 2026

38
ScoutScore · MILD

For most 5 year olds, Zootopia 2 is a yes with its teeth showing. It scores 38 on the ScoutScore, in the Mild tier, and the flags are sharper than the first movie's: a bite, a fire, a villain who threatens to freeze the city, and a betrayal involving venom. The buddy comedy carries everything, but the menace is pitched a notch above the original.

A ScoutScore is a living number. We re-check movies against the source and raise or lower it when we find something the first pass missed, so a score you see today can differ from one you saw last month.

Age by age

Under 6 DEPENDS

Mostly yes. The betrayal scene, where a trusted character turns and venom is involved, is the moment that unsettles small kids, because it breaks a rule about friends. The fire and the freeze threat are action-scary and pass.

Ages 6 to 8 LIKELY FINE

The target. The mystery plot is followable, the jokes land, and the betrayal becomes a satisfying twist rather than a scare.

Ages 9 to 11 LIKELY FINE

Easy, and the themes about who gets believed start to register.

Ages 12 and up LIKELY FINE

Nothing to manage.

Where the big moments land

The scenes below are the three hardest beats. The betrayal is the one to be in the room for with a small kid.

The bottom line

A buddy movie with its teeth showing, a little sharper than the first. For most 5 year olds that is exactly the right amount.
