For most 8 year olds, Watership Down is a no that parents discover too late, because it looks like a cartoon about rabbits. It scores 46 on the ScoutScore, in the Mild tier, and the tier is honest about the count while understating the effect: rabbits are gassed in their burrows, caught in snares, torn by a dog and each other, with blood drawn plainly in soft watercolor. It is a serious film about survival, and it was never made for small children.
