For most 10 year olds, Jaws is close but not automatic. It scores 88 on the ScoutScore, in the Strong tier, and it carries a rating from 1975 that would not survive today: people are eaten alive on screen, one of them a boy the audience has just met, and a severed head arrives as one of cinema's most reliable jump scares. What makes it work for kids anyway is that the dread does its work off screen, and the second half becomes a three-men-and-a-boat adventure.
